Bob Claire
Bob earned his B.A. in Music at U.C. Berkeley, where he was a member of a jazz
quintet which won 1st prize at the National Collegiate Jazz Festival. The quintet
then toured Africa for the U.S. Department of State. He has taught Jazz theory,
arranging and ensemble at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, as well as
in the U.C. Summer Music Program, and has been on the Faculty at Stanford University
as Lecturer in Baroque flute.
Here's what Bob has to say:
I think jazz is one of the great musics in the world because it combines both the
spontaneity and imagination needed for improvisation with an intellectual side that
goes as deep as you want to go, especially regarding harmony and theory. Jazz has
it all!
